For my final project in acting class, I would like to perform a Shakespearean monologue. Shakespeare has been an important part of my life, and I would like to bring my passion and understanding of his writing into my performance. Working with Shakespeare also helps me work on memorization and understanding an actors emotion. Shakespeare has been how I cope with difficult life decisions and consequences. Everything I have gone through, it has been possible for me to find a Shakespearean text to help me understand a tackle the issue.
I feel as if I could learn something new from this monologue, tap into an emotion I have never had to use during a performance. Young love. The monologue I have chosen is "My Love Is As A Fever". This monologue reads "My love is as a fever, longing still
I feel as if I could learn something new from this monologue, tap into an emotion I have never had to use during a performance. Young love. The monologue I have chosen is "My Love Is As A Fever". This monologue reads "My love is as a fever, longing still
For that which longer nurseth the disease,
Feeding on that which doth preserve the ill,
Th’ uncertain sickly appetite to please.
My reason, the physician to my love,
Angry that his prescriptions are not kept,
Hath left me, and I desperate now approve
Desire is death, which physic did except.
Past cure I am, now reason is past care,
And frantic-mad with evermore unrest;
My thoughts and my discourse as madmen’s are,
At random from the truth vainly expressed:
For I have sworn thee fair and thought thee bright,
Who art as black as hell, as dark as night."
A sonnet about passion and love rising from impossibility, forbidden love. I would love to work on this monologue to find my true potential as an actor.
